IRISH soccer has been awash with rumours that former FAI boss John Delaney is planning to lead a takeover bid for Waterford FC. But the club’s owner, Lee Power, says he is unaware of any such attempt.

He told The Irish Times there has been no approach from Delaney, who has long-standing connections with the club and is believed to have advised on the purchase of the Blues by Power, owner of the English side Swindon Town.

Power’s commitment to the Blues has been the subject of speculation since they missed out on a place in the Europa League this season over a licensing issue.

Having finished fourth last season, Alan Reynolds’s side slipped over the course of this campaign, but picked up five wins in their last seven games, ending the season with a 4-2 victory over UCD.
