OLMYPIC medalist John Treacy says Waterford needs to be more ambitious.

The Chief Executive of Sport Ireland was guest speaker at the Waterford Chamber’s annual dinner. The athlete, from Villierstown, said Waterford people are resilient but “tend to be a bit laid-back at times”.

“I think we need to put ourselves out there and develop the city and county some more and have the ambition. There’s great examples throughout Waterford in terms of success in recent times, the Greenway would be a perfect example of what success looks like.”

Ireland’s ambassador to the US, Waterford man John Mulhall, was also a speaker. He said he was optimistic about opportunities that exist for Irish companies to expand their footprint in the US market.

Opening the event, Mayor John Pratt said Waterford was “a vibrant and sustainable place, strongly leading the South East”.
