IT’S beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Santa has called, the lights are on, and Winterval is in full swing.

Ireland’s biggest and best Christmas festival got underway on Saturday when Mr Claus turned up to help Mayor John Pratt with the big switch-on.

Waterford city has been transformed into a magical winter wonderland with over 60 free and ticketed events on offer .

Visitors will be enchanted by the brand-new interactive Wizards + Dragons exhibition at Waterford City Hall and the magical Santa’s Grotto experience in Choristers Hall.

Other highlights include the iconic big wheel, Waterford Eye, at Merchants Quay and a brand-new 3D music and lights show for Winterval Illuminates taking place at Cathedral Square.

Winterval runs until December 23. Full programme at
