A TD says he has been assured by a government minister that funding for the north quays project is on the way.
Sinn Féin deputy, David Cullinane, welcomed the commitment from the Minister for Housing and Local Government that funding certainty for the north quays is imminent – subject to checks.
He said he had raised the issue in the Dáil with the Minister for Public Expenditure and the Minister for Local Government.
“This project is vital to the future development of Waterford City and County and the region. I welcome the commitment from government ministers that funding certainty is imminent subject to agreements on oversight of spending.
vital that this project is not allowed to slip
However there are a lot hurdles still to be overcome. The Department of Transport also need to step up to the plate. It is important that the Government act as one and in unison and deliver the funding necessary.”
Mr Cullinane said local Oireachtas members would be meeting with the Department to make this point.
“It is vital that this project is not allowed to slip,” he said. “This will require leadership and decisive action.”
Bord Pleanála has cleared the way for the development by approving plans for a bridge connecting Waterford city’s south quay to a strategic development zone on the north quays.
