A LOCAL election candidate claims she has been the victim of a “scurrilous” campaign to smear her.
People Before Profit’s Una Dunphy said: “I would like to sincerely thank other candidates in the Tramore/Waterford City West constituency for alerting me to this highly organised smear campaign against me. They passed the detailed leaflet onto me and offered solidarity against a scurrilous attack.”
Ms Dunphy said the leaflet had “an eerie level of detail” including employment details, council billing information and internal union details, that were not public knowledge.
In a separate controversy, the director of local elections for Fine Gael in Waterford is reported to have quit over a “lack of engagement” from TD John Deasy.
Maurice Cummins, a former senator, said Mr Deasy was not holding constituency clinics and had left the Fine Gael organisation “hanging” over whether he will contest the next general election.
