THE Minister for Education and Skills, Joe McHugh TD, is not committed to resolving the challenge faced in North Wexford concerning school places and has effectively has no plans for more second-level school places in Gorey, according to Councillor Malcolm Byrne.
“The problem has been highlighted to his department for a number of years and we need to start construction now.
out of touch
“His view that there is adequate capacity in Creagh College is not supported by the school itself and all local primary schools as well as Gorey Community School have raised concerns with the Minister. He is out of touch but we need to continue to press the case.”
In the Dail, Minister McHugh said:
“A new 1,000 pupil post-primary school was established in 2011 to serve the Gorey school planning area and moved into its permanent site in 2014 and this school has capacity to meet demand in the area.”
