RHONA Cullinan, from Co Carlow, has been crowned Inspirational Mum of the year in the Woman’s Way and Beko Mum of the Year Awards.
Rhona (46) is passionate about helping others. She worked alongside the Marie Keating Foundation to create a make-up book and has volunteered for the Look Good Feel Good Foundation.
She established a support group for parents of children with Talipes after the birth of her first son. With the arrival of Joshua, who was diagnosed with autism at 18 months old, and Molly, who was born with Down Syndrome and Tetralogy of Fallot, Rhona was inspired to set up a Facebook page and an Instagram account.
I want to be that person who can inspire other people to think
On these platforms she connects with other parents and talks about what it’s like being a parent of children with disabilities. “I’ve had other people inspire me so it’s nice to give back and I want to be that person who can inspire other people to think life is not as bad as you think it’s going to be,” she says.
Overall Mum of the Year was Caitríona Nic Mhuiris (53) from Galway. Her family of four went to eight when she and husband Séamus became guardians to four nieces after Caitríona’s sister Una died.
